LAF Awards Virtual Recognition
This two-part virtual celebration honored the 2020 and 2021 recipients of the LAF Medal and Founders' Award.
The Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) recognized the most recent winners of the LAF Medal and Founders’ Award, our highest honors for individuals and organizations that have made a significant and sustained contribution to the LAF mission of supporting the preservation, improvement and enhancement of the environment.
The ceremony featured short presentations from each winner, followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A.

2020 LAF Medal: Bill Johnson, FASLA
A co-founder of JJR, Bill was a professor of landscape architecture and Dean of University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources.
2020 LAF Founders' Award: Sustainable Urban Forests Coalition
SUFC is the only national network of nonprofits, businesses, associations, and others working to advance urban forest policy and practices.
2021 LAF Medal: Karen A. Phillips, FASLA
Karen’s career spans real estate, urban planning and revitalization, environmental design, community development, and public service.
2021 LAF Founders' Award: Mayors' Institute on City Design
MICD organizes workshops where mayors engage design and development experts to find solutions to critical challenges facing their cities.
