Nina Chase, ASLA, is the Senior Project Manager at Riverlife in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Nina advocates for public spaces and placemaking initiatives as foundational building blocks for urban transformation along Pittsburgh’s riverfronts. Formally trained as a landscape architect, Nina previously worked as an Associate in Sasaki Associates’ Urban Studio in Boston, Masachusetts. Nina’s recent work includes the urban design and landscape architecture guidelines for Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC and the design and construction of the award winning temporary pop-up, The Lawn on D in Boston, MA. Nina led Sasaki’s Sea Change research initiative, exploring design solutions to sea level rise in Boston, and also worked with Sasaki’s HUD-funded Rebuild by Design team.
A native of West Virginia, Nina graduated with distinction from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and summa cum laude from West Virginia University. Nina has been an Adjunct Lecturer at Northeastern University and the Boston Architectural College where her teaching focused on the intersection of landscape architecture and urban design. She has lectured at MIT and Rhode Island School of Design and has served as a design critic at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. For the past three years, Nina served as the Chair of the Boston Society of Landscape Architects’ Emerging Professionals Committee. Nina was recently named “Landscape Architect to Watch” by Green Building & Design Magazine, and her graduate work along the Chicago River received a national American Society of Landscape Architects Student Honor Award for Analysis and Planning in 2012. Nina was the West Virginia University Olmsted Scholar in 2009.
