Martha Fajardo is a Colombian architect, landscape architect with a Master’s degree in Landscape Design, and a recipient of the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (DLitt) from the University of Sheffield. She is co-founder and CEO of Grupo Verde Ltda (GVL) a firm dedicated to the professional practice of landscape architecture, landscape urbanism and urban design. She is also co-founder and chair of the Latin American Landscape Initiative (LALI), a regional initiative on the mobilization of civil society for the safeguarding of collective nature and landscape values, represented by the conservation of biodiversity, of traditional knowledge, of beauty, and of heritage in all its forms. She is a Past President and Honorary Member of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), the professional body representing all landscape architects on a global level. Martha represents the landscape architecture profession at the Working Group of the World Environmental Hubs initiative (WEH), which is led by IUCN and supported by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, South Korea. She was recently elected as the World Urban Parks (WUP) Americas Region co-chair. WUP is a new international organization for the urban parks, open space and recreation sector.
